Nessie is one of the unforgettable quintuplets born to June Bug and Tundra in 2023—a truly special litter! She was the fifth and final kid to arrive and needed a little extra care at the start. Born with a crooked neck, likely from being a bit squished by her siblings in utero, she required some gentle TLC and light physical therapy in her first few days. Thankfully, she bounced back quickly and was soon thriving like the rest.
During that time of extra care and close bonding, Nessie completely stole my heart. With her tiny hooves and determined spirit, she left an impression I couldn’t ignore—and it didn’t take long for me to realize she wasn’t going anywhere. Nessie earned her place in our herd, and I’m so glad she stayed.
Nessie took Grand Champion Mini Nubian Junior Doe in the Fall 2024 MDGA Virtual Show. Judge Lavinia Allen said, “This was a very beautiful class of Junior Mini Nubian doelings, and all the handlers did a great job of presenting them. However, the Mini Nubian Grand Champion Junior Doe is Entry D from the Senior Yearling class. In her maturity Entry D has the advantage in Body Capacity being deeper in the heart girth and barrel. In General Appearance she has good width throughout especially in the chest floor when viewed from the front, tighter in her toe set, good angulation of the rear legs from the side, smooth blending all through her longer topline, and good extension to her brisket. In Dairy Character she shows clear dairy wedges from the side and top.”
Nessie brought her A-game to the North Texas Tango, showing off her style, structure, and presence in a highly competitive lineup. She moved with confidence and poise, easily catching the eye of Judge Jake Bradford, who awarded her the honor of Reserve Grand Champion Mini Nubian Senior Doe and Best Udder in Age Class.
This win is a reflection of Nessie’s balanced conformation, strong dairy character, and beautifully attached udder—all key traits that set her apart in the ring. Her performance was a proud moment for our herd, and we’re excited to see what the future holds for this promising doe as she continues to grow and compete.
Her dam, June Bug, is our first doeling born at the Rafter O, and we are very proud of her. She is a dream to milk and has great Nubian breed character.
June Bug took Best in Show, Best Udder in Show, and Grand Champion Senior Mini Nubian Doe at the Hill Country Mini Milkers Fall Frolic Show in Decatur, TX, on Nov. 3, 2018!
June Bug took Best Udder in Show again in Ring 2 at the Hill Country Mini Milkers Texas Two-Step on June 2, 2019.
Her sire, Tundra, is our spectacular buck from out West. He brings in a powerhouse pedigree of champs and milk stars. He’s got excellent conformation! Tundra won Reserve Grand Champion Mini Nubian Buckling in the Fall 2020 MDGA Virtual Show! Tundra also has his *B – milk star. AND…Tundra won Reserve Grand Champion Mini Nubian Senior Buck in the Summer 2021 and Fall 2022 MDGA Virtual Show.
