Rafter O Prickly Poppy

Breed: Mini Nubian 4th Gen

Date of Birth: 02-23-24
PERCENTAGE: 64.03% NUBIAN / 35.97% NIGERIAN
TWO-TONE CHAMOISEE.

Poppy is a lovely doe that merges our Clover line with our excellent herd sire, Tundra.  Her overall conformation is a blend between her dam and grand dam.  We love this line of goats and want to retain Poppy for her pedigree and traits.

Poppy won Reserve Grand Champion Junior Doe at the TMM Piney Woods Polka in May 2024.Rafter O Prickly Poppy - Mini Nubian Doe

Her dam, Verbena, has it all! She is blue-eyed, polled, and has the unique Cou Clair color pattern—and an excellent pedigree! Her udder has great characteristics, nice teat size, and placement, and is well attached with a high escutcheon.

Her grand dam, Clover, is a beautiful two-tone chamoisee doe with blue eyes and a FINISHED CHAMPION.  She is very feminine and has an excellent topline and overall conformation.  Clover’s pedigree is outstanding on both sides.

Verbena won Reserve Grand Champion Senior Doe at the TMM Two-Step in 2023 and 2024.  In 2024, she won Best Udder as well.  Judges comment on how beautiful she is on the move in the ring! Verbena also won Reserve Grand Champion Mini Nubian Junior Doe in the Fall 2022 MDGA Virtual Show!

Poppy’s sire, Tundra is a Purebred Mini Nubian from excellent milk and show lines.  He has great conformation with a long level topline and nice width throughout.  He also has earned his *B!

Tundra has sired many wonderful kids!  We have retained several of his kids: Sprite, Pancho, and Poppy.  Sprite won two Reserve Grand Champion Junior Doe awards in the 2023 show circuit.

Tundra has three Reserve Grand Champion wins in the MDGA Virtual Shows. We are hoping to get him in the ring for some live shows in the future!

Poppy is the future of the Rafter O herd, and we are excited to see her in the show ring and filling the pail in the milk room!

NAME ORIGIN

Prickly Poppy - Flower Prickly Poppy is undoubtedly an apt name for this lovely flower. They are easy to grow and attract nectar and pollen-gathering insects. You are almost sure to see a bee of some kind when you look into one of these large, frilly white blooms. Plant Prickly Poppies where you can enjoy them from a distance, as they really are prickly! Foliage is more of a blue-green color, and leaves somewhat resemble fresh Swiss chard with white ribs running down the veins.
