Rafter O Canyon Towhee “Toby” is a 3rd Generation, 80.59% Nubian Mini Nubian buck retained from our 2026 breeding of Rafter O Summer Tanager and Storybook’s Star’s Spangled Banner *B.

Toby caught our attention early for his balance. He has enough width and substance without being overly broad, yet maintains plenty of dairy refinement without becoming too fine. Simply put, he falls right in that sweet spot we look for in a young buck: balanced, proportional, and structurally pleasing.

He is also polled and blue-eyed, with moonspots adding a little extra flash. Even better, Toby has an exceptionally sweet personality and is a pleasure to have in the herd.

Why We Retained Toby

Toby was retained with a very specific purpose: to carry the Summer × Banner genetics forward in the Rafter O breeding program.

His dam, Rafter O Summer Tanager, represents generations of our homebred genetics and has proven herself in the show ring with Grand Champion, Reserve Grand Champion, Best of Breed, and Best Udder of Breed honors. She brings together some of the most influential animals in our program, including Finished Champions Clover and Tundra.

His sire, Storybook’s Star’s Spangled Banner *B, was brought into our herd to introduce a fresh line of high-percentage Nubian dairy genetics. At 87.74% Nubian, Banner contributes strong Nubian breed character, dairy genetics, moonspots, and valuable bloodlines that complement our established Rafter O lines.

Rather than allowing that combination to end with a single generation, we chose Toby to carry it forward.

Toby will begin his role as a Rafter O herd sire with our 2027 breeding season. We will be watching his first kids closely for the same balance, breed character, dairy strength, and sweet temperament that made us choose him for our own breeding program.
